Family Enrichment Classes

Les Sanders will develop a community art program in the Nymore area. Grant funds will be used for materials, program support, and hiring of several art instructors to assist with the variety of art classes.

CLASSES ARE FREE!!! You must register in advance. CONTACT: Les Sanders at 218-556-3521 OR Kathy Sanders at 218-556-0887 to register for these classes. Classes are for adult/child/family, age 10 and up, children must have an adult family member present.  Class size is limited so sign up NOW.  All supplies are provided.

November 20th, December 4th and 18th, 2025, 5:30 – 7:30 pm Playing with Pastels with artist Mike Ohl
Unleash your creativity in this hands-on Pastel Art Class! Whether you're new to pastels or looking to refine your skills, this class offers a relaxing and supportive environment to explore the vibrant world of soft or oil pastels. Learn techniques such as blending, layering, shading, and color mixing while working on a variety of projects ranging from landscapes and still life to abstract designs. All supplies are provided—just bring your imagination and a willingness to play with color! 

November 20th, December 4th and 18th, 2025, 5:30 – 7:30 pm Mosaic Magic with artist Kathy Sanders
Discover the timeless beauty of mosaic art in this hands-on, beginner-friendly class! Learn how to design, cut, and place colorful tiles, glass, and found objects to create your own stunning mosaic masterpiece. From coasters to wall art, you'll explore basic techniques, tools, and grouting while bringing your unique vision to life. No prior experience needed—just bring your creativity.

January 8th and 22nd, 2026, 5:30 – 7:30 pm - GROUP A  Needle Felting with artist Lanee Paulson
January 13th, 2026, 5:30 – 7:30 pm - GROUP B  Needle Felting with artist Lanee Paulson
Discover the soft and satisfying art of needle felting! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to transform colorful wool fibers into adorable figures, whimsical creatures, or decorative designs—one poke at a time. Using special barbed needles, you’ll shape and sculpt the wool into forms that are as charming as they are unique. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned crafter, this class offers a relaxing and creative way to explore texture, color, and form. 

January 8th and 22nd, and February 5th, 2026, 5:30 – 7:30 pm Palette Knife Party with artist Kathy Sanders
Discover the excitement of painting with a palette knife in this creative acrylic workshop. Instead of brushes, you’ll use knives to layer paint and build rich textures. Learn techniques for blending, scraping, and sculpting paint on canvas to paint this vibrant landscape! 

February 5th and 19th, March 5th and 19th, 2026, 5:30 – 7:30 pm Spoon Carving with artist Les Sanders
Discover the timeless craft of spoon carving in this hands-on woodworking class. Using simple tools, you’ll learn safe carving techniques, wood selection, and finishing methods to transform a raw piece of wood into a functional and beautiful spoon. No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to create, shape, and enjoy the meditative process of working with wood. Each participant will leave with a handcrafted spoon and the skills to continue carving at home. 

February 19th, March 5th and 19th, 2026, 5:30 – 7:30 pm Landscapes in Oils - Painting Nature’s Beauty with artist Kathy Sanders
Explore the timeless art of oil painting while capturing the beauty of natural landscapes. In this class, you’ll learn techniques for mixing colors, creating depth, and using brushwork to bring skies, trees, and water to life on canvas. This workshop will guide you step-by-step in developing your own landscape painting, while encouraging personal style and creativity.

Les Sanders is a fiscal year 2025 recipient of a Arts Experiences grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
